Irish Film Institute -WHEN HARRY MET SALLY…

WHEN HARRY MET SALLY…

Director: ROB REINER

95 minutes, U.S.A., 1989, Digital

This film was released on Friday 11th December 2015 and is no longer screening.

Sally’s (Meg Ryan) initial encounter with Harry (Billy Crystal) sees the two parting on unfriendly terms due to their disagreement on the issue of whether men and women can ever be just friends, with Harry believing that sex always gets in the way while Sally believes in platonic friendship.

Over the years, the two encounter each other repeatedly, eventually becoming friends. However, everything changes when the two sleep together.

There is an abundance of riches on display here, arising primarily from Nora Ephron’s insightful and witty script and the chemistry between the two leads in one of cinema’s most beloved romantic comedies.
